Kuunganisha is Swahili for “connecting.” This portal will be a scalable information and technology exchange, established on a mix of web-based enterprise portals and physical demonstration studios. This exchange collates principles of critical thinking, math, physics, thermal dynamics, and parametric modeling, to spur the development of sovereign production of solar concentrating systems and stabilized earthen construction.
The production of these technologies provides a real world classroom, in which students and entrepreneurs can apply principles of problem solving, geometry, hydraulics, hydrology, heat transfer and prototyping. Both technologies reduce deforestation through removing the need for fuel-wood. Solar concentrators provide farmers and entrepreneurs with thermal energy for processing agriculture yields. Stabilized earthen construction provides sustainable building materials for hydrologic infrastructure.
Although there have been significant developments in translation and communication technologies, language and social barriers continue to hinder the proper production and use of technology in developing economies. Once established, the information and technology exchange will be used as a tool for testing and discovering efficient methods for collating, interpreting, and publishing information related to the production and use of rural poverty reduction technologies.
Our project provides students and participants with a global consciousness, which allows them to compete and collaborate internationally. We understand the potential of American classrooms to apply core, academic principles to the problems faced by communities in developing economies, and in so doing, develop critical thinking and effective communication skills.
Open access to educational and instructional resources is the catalyst for a revolution of entrepreneurship, which promises to empower self-guided youth with the ability to advance the world they will inherit. In keeping with the principle of open access, The Kuunganisha Portal will utilize the Attribution-NonCommercial license to disseminate instructional resources and continually augment our exchange platform. The solutions to the problems faced by many, exist, they just need connecting. Kuunganisha is one such connection.
